Osho Nadabrahma Meditation

Leela Centre

“In Nadabrahma, remember this: let the body and mind be totally together, but remember that you have to become a witness. Get out of them, easily, slowly, from the back door, with no fight, with no struggle.” - Osho Join the Sydney Spiritual Network for a powerful meditation as we move into Nadabrahma meditation for our community meditation. This is a very powerful mediation and acts as a complimentary meditation to our regular Kundalini meditations we hold. Nadabrahma meditation was designed by Indian Mystic Osho with the goal of the fusing body and mind together to create a balance within so that the natural witness arises and begins being established as the focal point of observation. It’s a technique that if done in its totality can take us beyond the duality of the observer and the observed, where the witness and the witnessed break down and just witnessing is left. This is a very advanced stage of the practice and is not usually reached on the first attempt and takes much dedication and understanding but its certainly possible. The Power of this Meditation Nada-Brahma is known as the sound of God, essentially meaning that the whole universe was created from the energy of sound. The key benefit of this meditation is that the sound we create leaves little room for the mind to manoeuvre meaning it is kept still and silent through the use of sound. Once an inner stillness is cultivated for an extended period of time, the inner mystery of meditation starts to unfold the blissful and deep peaceful contentment that is underneath the personality. Presence arises by itself, there is no trying to ‘be present’ as such but a distance is formed between the observer and the bodymind. Nadabrahma Meditation Instructions: The meditation lasts an hour, and there are three stages. Your eyes remain closed throughout. First Stage: 30 minutes Sit in a relaxed position with eyes closed and lips together. Start humming, loudly enough to be heard by others and create a vibration throughout your body. You can visualize a hollow tube or an empty vessel, filled only with the vibrations of the humming. A point will come when the humming continues by itself and you become the listener. There is no special breathing and you can alter the pitch or move your body smoothly and slowly if you feel it. Second Stage: 15 minutes The second stage is divided into two 7½ minute sections. For the first half move the hands, palms up, in an outward circular motion. Starting at the navel, both hands move forwards and then divide to make two large circles mirroring each other left and right. The movement should be so slow that at times there will appear to be no movement at all. Feel that you are giving energy outwards to the universe. After 7½ minutes turn the hands, palms down, and start moving them in the opposite direction. Now the hands will come together towards the navel and divide outwards to the sides of the body. Feel that you are taking energy in. Third Stage: 15 minutes Now stop the hand movement and just sit relaxed. The whole session will last for 2 hours, the first hour being the 1 hour Nadabrahma Meditation and the 2nd hour we’ll have a sharing circle where we’ll be able to ask questions, share experiences and connect with the group. Ensure that you are wearing light and loose clothes which are comfortable enough to sit still in.
