Getting Rid of Test Cases with Nicky West
I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year holiday. To kick off our 2018 calendar of events we have Nicola West, who is giving a version of her talk at the CASTx2018 conference, "Getting Rid of Test Cases", to Sydney Testers! Her abstract is as below - “Is it possible to get rid of traditional step by step test cases in a company that has been using them for years? That was my mission when I joined a small company a year ago as its test lead. Join me as I take you on a journey to discover how to change mindsets and move to a more agile way of testing. I’ll describe the very traditional setup I encountered when I joined the company and the steps I took to change processes. The approach I pioneered hinges on creating user stories to define features and, in particular, writing acceptance criteria as these effectively become the test cases. I’ll also describe how other types of tests such as shakedowns were replaced with mind maps. Regression testing is always a challenge and I’ll discuss how we deal with it. By the end of this talk, you will have a process to follow and concrete examples of the user stories and mind maps that we replaced test cases with. You’ll also benefit from the lessons I learnt on this journey and be able to apply them to your situation.” Along with her great talk we will have the usual opportunities for social networking and announcements of testing news and events. Come along to our first event of 2018 at JobAdder. It's not to be missed!

What we're about

Public Group

All test professionals and software development people are welcome — programmers, managers, designers, architects, technical support folk, documentors, project managers, etc.

Sydney Testers is about smarter software testing. We welcome any IT professional that performs or supports the practice of testing. This may be manual testers, automation specialists, performance, security, test managers, developers (acceptance testing and unit testing), devops crew, end users (UAT testing), and others...

We are a group of people with a focus to improve testing for Sydney. We operate under a shared set of values and principles. We seek to practice high-value testing rather than so-called "best practice".

Anyone is welcome to join this meetup group that wants to do any of the following:

• Stay fresh with the latest trends

• Network with testing professionals

• Learn new testing techniques and tools

Sydney Testers holds monthly networking meetups and talks.
