What we're about
This is a special meetup group in Colorado Springs that focuses on sign language interpreting!
THIS MEETUP GROUP IS FOR
(1) First-year students enrolled in the Interpreting Preparation Program at Pikes Peak Community College
(2) Second-year students enrolled in the Interpreting Preparation Program at Pikes Peak Community College
(3) Deaf/hard-of-hearing/hearing people who want to support and mentor students of interpreting along with interpreters, professionals, and community members too!
To join this group, you need to contact the organizer and get approval. Please include your role such as student, mentor, interpreter, etc. to show that you qualify. In order to benefit from this group, you need to be able to communicate in sign, at least at a basic level, both expressively and receptively. There is no cost to attend these Meetups. Second-year students can count hours for the meetups they attend. (Details for documenting these internship hours will be provided at the meetups.) Additionally, respecting individual preferences and opinions on all topics discussed, is required.
THIS MEETUP GROUP IS NOT FOR people who want to learn sign language. If you are interested in learning American Sign Language, Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs offers classes. Look online for details. Also, you can search online for additional places in your community that provide avenues for learning sign language. Good luck in your endeavor!
