What we're about

The group is being repurposed to arrange occasional events as follows :

1) Easy-paced walks with the emphasis on stopping to take photos, explore points of interest, and learn about the area. Walks will range from gentle strolls to more challenging outings on tougher terrain, but always allowing ample time.

2) Days out to towns, cities and the countryside to enjoy historical and cultural attractions, practice photography skills and maybe enjoy a meal / pub visit .

3) Trips out by bus and train taking advantage of rover tickets like Wayfarer, Derbyshire Wayfarer etc (and for those eligible the older persons' and disabled bus passes).

Members are welcome to suggest and host events .

Our area:
Our events will focus on the northern counties of Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, West and South Yorkshire, plus all areas of the Peak District National Park .

PLEASE NOTE: Like all other Meetup groups, this group provides an informal way to meet people with a common interest. Everyone taking part in the group events is responsible for their own safety and well-being, and no responsibility is assumed, or liability accepted, by the group organisers or the organisers or hosts of any event. Members are expected to treat other members, and the people and places we visit, with respect at all times.

Peak & Northern Photography Group - anyone like to take over?

Hello everyone!

The group has gone a bit quiet events-wise recently. I have not been in a position to host any events since the highly successful (if unusual) Sheffield Industrial Townscapes event back in November, and my other commitments (Meetup and non-Meetup) mean that situation is not likely to change.

Although there are a number of other photo groups around (two essentially Manchester based groups and the Nottingham-based Photography Days Out group come to mind) this group does have its own niche- concentrating on walks and visits in the Peak District and surrounding areas. The group's events have usually attracted people from Greater Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and places in between.

If there are any members who would like to take charge of the group, and give it fresh momentum by organising more events, I would be happy to step down. If the group continued I would still try to put on a couple of walks or visits per year. Manchester also now has a thriving History Tours and Discussions group, and some of their days out (which expand as far as places like Leeds and York) would perhaps work as joint Meetups.

Please get in touch by replying to this email if you might be interested. There is a lot of information on running a Meetup group on the Help pages of the Meetup site https://www.meetup.com/help/. The fees are currently $89 every six months (around £58). During my time, these have been met from contributions made by members of other groups I organise. The sum could easily be covered by charging a small joining fee and/or an annual charge. Many groups do this, setting the charge at anything between around £2 and £5, depending on the size of their active membership.

I look forward to your responses!
