Note: RSVP Rules may vary slightly depending on the host (Advanced purchase recommended if tickets are available). ABOUT THIS AWESOME FILM Aww this film gives me a lot nostalgia. I remember when my best friend’s mum at the time sneak me into the cinema to watch the film when I was young and tender. Creepy you say? No not really lol she was an avid horror fan like me and I had my friend's blessing. So Event Horizon is about a crew of astronauts sent on a rescue mission after a missing spaceship, the Event Horizon, spontaneously appears in orbit around Neptune. Searching the ship for signs of life, the rescue crew learns that the Event Horizon was a test bed for an experimental engine that opened a rift in the space time continuum and left our universe entirely, allowing a malevolent entity to possess the ship. The film had a troubled production history, with filming and editing rushed when it became clear that Titanic would not meet its projected release date. The original 130-minute cut of the film was heavily edited by demand to the consternation of director Paul W. S. Anderson. Upon release, the film was a commercial and critical failure in the United States grossing $26.7 million on a $60 million production budget. However in other territories it started to do much better and critically it warmed up as the years went by. At one point it sold so well on video and on its initial DVD release that studio contacted Anderson to begin working on a restoration of the deleted footage. Sadly it turned out that the footage had either been lost or destroyed so it may be something that we will never see. Again through the years Event Horizon has built a solid cult following and is often referenced, parodied or has had key plots plagiarised in other works of popular culture. This will be a fun night! SEAT LOCATIONS No allocated seating however early arrival recommended for preferred seating. After their school bus inadvertently passes through a cloud of toxic gas, a gaggle of unfortunate pre-teens are turned into radioactive zombies with killer hugs. Sharing many of the same crew as Friday the 13th (with which it was shot back-to-back), this deliciously depraved mash-up of Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and Cronenberg’s The Brood is a criminally underrated exploitation classic. • "THE LIGHTHOUSE (2020)" OPENING NIGHT + DRINKS

    Picturehouse Central

WELCOME TO THS MEETUP/EVENT Welcome to our new Horrific Meetup-Event! We hope you have fun with us and we look forward to meeting you and making the most of this time. PLEASE READ OUR RSVP-NO SHOW & MEETUP RULES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE BEFORE YOU SIGNUP TO THIS MEETUP/EVENT. Note: RSVP Rules may vary slightly depending on the host (Advanced purchase recommended if tickets are available). THE MEET-UP This film's opening night is expected on January 31, 2020. Drinks and Movie will be at Picturehouse Central at Picadilly Circus. We will update this section as soon as we receive the information. SEAT LOCATIONS Very likely to have allocated seats. BASIC PREMISE Fans of Robert Eggers’s 2015 horror folklore flick The Witch will be delighted to know that he has managed to pull off a second feat in nightmarish world-building with his sophomore film, The Lighthouse. Much like how he immersed audiences into the depths of the forests of 17th-century New England four years prior, this time he leaves viewers to their own devices on a secluded island in the year 1890, populated only by the film’s two subjects, Ephraim Winslow and Thomas Wake (played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, respectively.) Rooted in a script brimming with old-fashioned nautical dialect (co-written by Robert’s brother, Max) and shot completely in black-and-white, Eggers triumphs in creating a horror film that doesn’t look or sound like any other contemporary film of the genre yet doesn’t sacrifice any of the scares in the process. If you were impressed by the authenticity of the dialogue and set design of his first film, you will be delighted by his second effort. This cult classic has been debated in Film Studies and Psychology seminars with various theories such as: The film is a metaphor for psychoanalysis because Bill Murray’s character keeps reliving the same day until he breaks his pattern. 🔁🤯 Another theory is that the film represents the Buddhist concept of Samsara (rebirth).🙏✨ It is also said that the film is a depiction of man trapped in his own narcissism. 😏 It is an absolute cult classic and the opportunity to see this on Groundhog Day is not to be missed!! We will meet at the Imperial pub for a meet and greet. Then we will head to PCC for the film. The movie will start at 1.15 and end at 3.06 We will head off to the Imperial afterwards for a debrief, winter warmer, beer, food etc .
