Join Sam and me for a summer afternoon of easy/moderate hiking and exploring the at the tidepools of Smugglers Cove. We are hiking in the afternoon to get some of the cool sea breeze on what should be a warm summer day and to time our tidepool visit with the 4:30 p.m. low tide.
Wear some shoes or boots that have a good grip for walking on the slippery rocks at the tidepools. Bring enough food and water for what should be about a 3.5 hour hike depending on how long we hang out at the tidepools. There should be some interesting wildlife including shellfish, starfish, sea urchins, and sea anemone.
The hike to and from the pools is about a 5 mile round trip. We will be hiking "upside down" with the trip to the tidepools mostly downhill through the Forrestal Preserve and an uphill climb of about 700 ft. in elevation to get back to our cars.
After the hike, some of us will be heading to the nearby Terranea Resort for drinks and appetizers at Nelson's restaurant. Join us if you have the time. There are outdoor tables at a great setting on top of a bluff above the scenic PV coastline.
