What we're about

The TIMSAR (Widowed and Young) GROUP has been set up by young cousins Richard Scotney and Lesley Blockley, both from Burton on Trent and widows themselves, as a social group for young widows and widowers. The group is to enable other people from all walks of life who have lost a partner to gather in an open social environment and meet and chat with other widows and widowers. This is not intended to be a professional medical based counselling group; in fact it is intended to be as far removed from the institutionalised setting, which is often found with professional counselling, as possible.

It’s an opportunity to socialise with others who have been through similar circumstances and situations, safe in the knowledge that all understand how difficult it can be to leave the usual four walls of widowed life and not feel unduly pressurised to leave any or all of their emotional feelings out of a social occasion.

Everyone can be comfortable in the knowledge that if emotions begin to overtake, other members are fully sympathetic and understanding, having experienced the very same themselves.

Being widowed can be a very lonely place and the initial goal is to simply meet for company, drinks and casual, friendly, emotional support. It’s a chance to put some of the sad thoughts to the back of one’s mind for a short period of time and gain the confidence to leave the house and enjoy the company of others who fully understand how you feel.

The group is also open to close family members who may also be suffering the pain of the loss and we would encourage anyone wanting to join the group to include other members of their family when meeting with the group. Equally those that are living with impending and inevitable loss are also very welcome to come along and have a short period of relief from the stresses of caring for a poorly loved one.
