Take exit 53 to merge onto I-270 S. Take exit 31B to merge onto Buckeystown Pike/MD-85 South. Turn left at 28 Dickerson Rd. Turn left at Park Mills Rd. Go one mile to bridge over Monocacy River. Turn at Brown, Maryland Department of Natural Resources River Access sign and park under bridge(near the corner of Dickerson and Park Mills Road[google streetview]). Directions to Barley & Hops from the Takeout: Go left (northeast) onto Park Mills Rd. for approx 6.6 miles. Turn left onto Urbana Pike and follow approx 3.3 miles. Look for Barley and Hops on the right

This is a commercial trip by River & Trail Outfitters who have teamed up with Barley & Hops to offer a paddle by canoe or kayak down the beautiful, scenic Monocacy River, followed by a tour and tasting at the Brewery.

Then we'll follow our guide to Barley and Hops Microbrewery where we'll sample 6 of their stellar brews along with hearty appetizers!

Please bring a bag lunch in a waterproof container to enjoy on our trip. A box picnic lunch can be provided for an additional $8/person and MUST BE ORDERED AHEAD OF TIME.

Order the lunch too if you want it. I'm bringing my own and some ice tea to drink.

Itinerary:
10:00am Meet the group at the river take-out below the Monocacy River bridge (call them if you are lost [masked])

10:30am Depart for river put-in

2:00pmish Take off the water, change from river shoes into close-toed shoes and drive to brewery (sandals are not permitted in brewery due to OSHA law)

2:30pm-4:30pm Brewery Tour and kick back and enjoy the beer!

How to dress for river activities & What to bring:

  1. dry change of clothes and closed toed shoes (like sneakers)
  2. towel (#1&2 are left in car for after trip)
  3. suntan lotion
  4. sunglasses + strap (or use a string to tie)
  5. Hat
  6. water bottle and/or tea/soda
  7. lunch (or order it online/call through company)
  8. waterproof container for supplies and lunch & drink
  9. money (for tips and extra beer to bring home)

    I am assuming that the outfitters bring us to our cars after the brewery tour?

      I assume so, but you can find out for sure by asking them (call, email). These guys do a great job. I have gone on several of their other trips and they take good care of everyone.
