This has become a traditional October hike for the TOaks hikers and here it is again! It's a great time of year to do a "touristy" hikin' in LA thing and view an old filming location. Besides, you'll get a decent workout on the way up to the Hollywood sign.

This is a hike that everyone should do at least once if you live in LA. We'll hike to the Hollywood sign along a fireroad and be oh so close to it. You can take pictures of it, but you can't touch it.

This is an up and back hike. See a past hike pictures and read testimonials. http://www.meetup.com/TOaks-Hikers/calendar/8805554/?from=list&offset=0

After we hike to the Hollywood sign, we can take a look at the bat caves where many of our movies and tv shows have been filmed.

See links below. http://www.seeing-stars.com/Locations/BronsonCaves.shtml http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1EpUwTkOtY

Hike level: medium level -you will be going up the whole way until we get to the sign 1100 feet elevation gain, 6 miles roundtrip 2.5 hours hike time- I hope!

walking pace- slow to medium

What to bring: Please bring water, sunscreen, lip balm, camera and wear comfortable shoes.

Since this trail has very little shade, it may be a good idea to wear a hat. Again lots of water is advisable as well.

We're going to start hiking at 9 am, so if you're not at the trailhead by then you can probably ask someone and they'll steer you in the right direction to get to the sign. We'll see you along the way either coming or going.

CARPOOLING IS RECOMMENDED AS PARKING BE LIMITED(This is a very popular hike and one time a filming crew took up parking space with their trailers):Use the comments section to coordinate rides.

Directions to the trailhead:From where ever you are; get to the 101 freeway and go towards Hollywood. You are going to exit Hollywood Blvd. Turn west, the first street you get to is Bronson Ave. Turn right on Bronson Ave. The street sign is small, but you know you are at Bronson because there is a Tommy's burger at that corner. You will head north on Bronson til it ends at Canyon Drive. Bronson Ave curves to the right just before it ends so don't worry. At Canyon drive make a left heading north. You will pass a nice neighborhood until you get to the gates of Griffith Park. Go in for about 1/4 mile and there will be a dirt parking lot on the right. We will meet in the parking lot on your right.
