Yes, I've always found that a good soldering iron makes for a happy hobbyist. When you make it to one of the meetings, remind me to let you try one of the temperature-controlled irons. Assuming you haven't already, there are two things you should invest in if you're going to go further. One is a good DVM and the other is a temperature-controlled iron.

Would it be too awkward for me being a female coming to your meetup? Also, all I have is a half made kit of a Radio Shack toy, but I think electronics stuff is pretty neat and like to learn.

No, Sage, I do not think you will feel awkward. You would not be the first woman to come. You might be the only one in the group that day, but there will be many women around the building engaged in other activities, nerdy and otherwise. Bring your toy. What's keeping you from finishing it?

Thanks for your reply. I may be at a Father's Day event but will come if I can, and if not then to an upcoming get together. I haven't finished my project because I was discouraged that my soldering iron was not getting hot, and discovered that the outlet I was using was not supplying much voltage. I am going to test another outlet. See you soon.
