Tableau - Install and First Steps
Note: Tableau Public is available at no charge. The “payment” is providing Tableau with your e-mail and any saved work will become publicly available. Do not use Tableau Public for any proprietary or confidential projects.

Download the App at this link - https://public.tablea... The link on this main page is for 64-bit Windows, but it will take you to a Thank You page to download 32-bit or Mac upon entry of your e-mail. It will also take you to the pricing page for Tableau Desktop.

First Steps
Tableau wants you to learn their product so they can gain insights on product improvement and develop a loyal user base who will be hired by companies who have already purchased enterprise licenses or will advocate the purchase otherwise.

  • Sign in or Set up a free Tableau Public account. This is Tableau’s social site and where your projects will be saved. You can control whether they will be made visible to the Tableau community. Members of the community are Authors. You can follow an Author and view their profile which is their portfolio of Tableau work.
  • https://public.tablea... - Check out the Gallery and Viz of the day. When the Author has uploaded the full Tableau Workbook (data + viz) you can download and open in your instance of Tableau and see how they did it.

A couple blogs comparing Data Visualization tools:
Tableau vs Power BI - Feb 2017

Power BI vs Tableau - March 2017

In the end it depends on your needs. If you just need data visualization - Tableau is the best. If you are looking for a broad, integrated data analytics platform - Power BI is the better choice.
