Second Saturday of the Month Writers' Critique Meeting

Second Saturday critique meetings are at the 208 Garfield cafe/pub/wine bar (at Garfield Books), just off Pacific Ave. in the Parkland neighborhood. From I-5, take exit 127 to Hwy 512, then exit at Pacific Ave. If you are coming from Tacoma, make a right at the top of the off-ramp. In any event, you want to head towards Parkland. Look for Farelli's Pizza at the corner of Pacific Ave. and Garfield. Turn right on Garfield. Look up a bit and to your left. You will see a sign for Garfield Books. Go past the sign and look for the first driveway on the left.  Turn into it, go past the building, and turn left again. Go almost to the far end of the parking lot. You should be behind the entrance to Garfield Books, which is the PLU bookstore. It will not be open at 9:00, though, so park your car and walk past the building to Pacific Avenue, where you will find a wheelchair ramp. Climb it and you will be at the entrance to the cafe. To get back to your car, there's an Exit Only door at the back of the cafe.

Current members with work for critique should post it to to our working site no later than Wednesday evening Try to limit submissions to around 20 pages, 12 pt. readable type, double-spaced, 1" margins all around. This is to help reduce the strain on fellow members' eyeballs & their pocketbooks.

*** Re: extra copies. If you are a writer with work for critique, bringing  extra copies for new members. .

Well, first, loose the exclamation points. Yes, really.
But on to the fun stuff: First, come to a meeting. You do not have to submit, but if you do, submissions for a meeting are always due the Monday before the meeting, which in this case is 4 August, 2014. They are posted on another site which you won't have access to until you have come to a meeting. Since you are a new member and have not had that opportunity, you will email your submission to me at [masked]. This Thursday or Friday, I will send out an email, so be sure you are subscribed to organizer messages. In short, though, this is the format:

    1. File is in .doc format. Just about everyone can read it. In MS Word, choose Word[masked] in the Save As Dialog.

    2. It must have a proper header. On THIS site, look under MORE->files in the horizontal menu. Scroll down to find a template.

    3. Twenty page limit.

    4. 1" margins, 12 pt. double spaced legible font. See upcoming email for more details.
