Introduction

I'm SISSY, PACK LEADER, and I like to HIKE and KAYAK! My person started this group so I could meet "like-minded" dogs

REQUIRED....YOUR DOG'S BREED, AGE & NAME. Your membership request will be declined if you don't provide these 3 things.

I'm KAREN, the human in this duo. My best friend is Sissy, an 11 yr old Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) who needs to have a "job" to do, part of the breed. She takes her job of leading this pack very seriously, and I get to drive her around to the hikes and kayak paddles that she plans for her friends.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW (just approximate area)? And, HOW DID YOU FIND US?

I live in Ballwin area. Walking around the neighborhood is really boring so we started this group to provide a place for dog owners to bring their best friends for outings that go BEYOND THE SIDEWALK, where we can actually have FUN walking our dogs.

TELL US SOMETHING FUN OR INTERESTING ABOUT YOUR DOG... HOW DID YOU TWO FIND EACH OTHER? OR YOUR FAVORITE STORY ABOUT YOUR PUP.

Sissy is an Blue Heeler, a very smart, very busy and somewhat anti social herding breed that isn't particularly suited to living in town. Sissy would've had a life in a cage for 18+ hours a day, if I hadn't taken her. Life in town was not much of a challenge to her, but her hikes with this group have made her come alive. Cattle Dogs need to have a "job" to do. She totally focuses on her mission, which is walking me and being pack leader. Sometimes, it makes her seem unfriendly. She's a good girl, just doesn't care about "playing", only about doing her job and providing great hikes for all of her new friends. Our regular hikers know her "hiking ears" when she's doing her job and leading the dog pack. She vibrates when kayaking or when waiting for a hike to begin...she likes to move.

How often do you take your dog on a long walk...more than just around the block?

We like to get about 10-15 miles a week in cooler weather. In the summer, we kayak and stay on trails that have creeks/rivers. Sissy is very furry and cannot do long hikes over 75 degrees. We love muddy trails in the wilderness.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU TAKE YOUR DOG FOR A LONG HIKE, NOT JUST AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

We try to walk 10-12 miles a week, over several days. Usually will go for a couple of 3 to 5 mile walks, with shorter ones inbetween.
