Luminaries, Kayaks, and a Brew!!! Sounds like a Merry Christmas Celebration like none other! On Dec 10th the Schuylkill Canal Association will line the canal with Luminaries. This magnificent holiday light show will be held along the Schuylkill Canal up to Lock 60 and the Lock tender’s house. What better way to enjoy Luminaries than to paddle through them.
We will meet at the Dog Park in Port Providence at 2:15 and load people/kayaks into the van/trailer and shuttle to Lock 60. We have been asked to do this since parking can sometimes be an issue for the Holiday Luminaria event. For more details about the the Holiday Luminaria CLICK HERE .
We will put on the water by 3:30pm and paddle down the Schuylkill in the waning daylight for approximately 2 ½ miles where we will portage over to the canal. Once on the canal we will stop at the Fitzwater Station for some appetizers and beer. A draft beer of your choice will be supplied by Take It Outdoors & the Fitzwater Station as our way of saying Merry Christmas. Then back in the kayaks to finish the paddle to view the Luminaries. Once everyone is out feel free to take 20-30 minutes to "step back in time to a Dickens’ holiday scene, come inside to enjoy the beautifully decorated house, sing along with the joyful music played by Meadowlark and visit with Santa Claus"
After the paddle everyone is invited back to Fitzwater Station to warm up with food and drinks.
We will have a lead guide and a rear guide to ensure no one is left behind.
Cost if you have your own kayak = $45 (guides, one beer at the Fitzwater, shuttle and part of the proceeds will be donated to the SCA as a thank you for all of their hard work throughout the year)
Cost if you need a kayak= $85 (includes kayak, pfd, paddle, guides, one beer at the Fitzwater, and part of the proceeds will be donated to the SCA as a thank you for all of their hard work throughout the year)
