Looks like tempos for Saturday will be low 30's dropping to 20 overnight. Layer up, synthetic or wool base, insulating mid and a hardshell or paddle jacket. No cotton, it will trap moisture next to you and keep you cold. Remember your hat and gloves too. A good midweight synthetic or synthetic/wool blend base layer to keep body moisture moving away from you is key. And drink a lot of water on friday.

If you want more specific guidance, go to rei (or other outdoor retailers), let them know what you're planning and you'll have recommendations and choices.

Thanks Jeff...Hands are my biggest concern. Do you have any recommendations on gloves?

      11h ago

    • Jeff

I bought some nrs maverick gloves. They were too hot for black Friday, but I think they will do well for Saturday. Last year's model was on closeout from nrs.com. rei also carries them, on clearance now for 37.93. Available in large at the Christiana store, medium in Marlton

Hi, the cold is scary me away... I think I'll pass for this year. Someone can take my spot. Also, if you need to use my boat for someone, that's fine. Maybe I'll meet up w all at the Fitz afterwards. :)

Cathy, if you walk in front of the Lock Tenders house and keep going a short way, you come to the garage. It'll be in there

I just realized you said Friday night, we both work 3-11. For some reason, I was thinking Saturday late afternoon. I should pay attention better.... Can't wait to see it on Saturday, I'm sure it will be beautiful. Thanks for your hard work, all of you!

Doug, are there any 2 person kayaks available for rent? Not sure my 11 yr old son is ready to go this distance in his own kayak.

Sounds like a blast, but - given I have to travel with open vehicle to portage kayak, in the words of George HW Bush, "Naat gaah do it. Wouldn't be prudent."

Sounds interesting, but what do we wear to keep warm that is not too heavy for being out on the water?

    November 15

    • Doug C.

What Not to Wear - NO COTTON.
What to Wear - Work-out clothes of any kind will usually work (running, cycling, skiing, yoga, Under Armor, etc) If you have questions about what to wear let me know and I will send you a list of recommended clothing.

Layers - I always preach layers, layers, layers. From the time you step out of your door to the warmest part of the day the temperatures could fluctuate up to 30 degrees. Wear clothes that are easy to put on and take off so you can regulate your temperature as needed. You want to minimize sweating as much as possible. A Windbreaker is also a key piece of clothing. It helps your body heat stay close to your body even if there is a cool breeze.

Extra Set of Clothes - Everybody is required to paddle with an extra change of clothes in a dry bag. This only needs to be the basics since this is only in case of an emergency. I have dry bags available if you don’t have any. Let me know if you need one.
