Greetings Photographers!

For this new mindful photo field trip, we will focus on capturing the heart of a place you may have visited before. We will work on learning to see with a fresh eye and to compose images in a way that transforms a snap shot into a photograph. I will be introducing 3 strategies for composition that will immediately help you see the strongest way to compose your image.

The mindfulness aspect we will cover in this day is how to simplify the scene and focus on the essence. Often we sense a scene has potential, but fail to find the pulse. The mindful practice I will introduce will help you discern the most compelling element of the scene and to feature this in your photo.

Learn how to take iconic photos with a twist and in your own style. This is great practice if you are interested in travel photography. Some of the subjects we will photograph:
Architectural Treasures
Historic Waterfront Area
Colors of Fall
People and pets

Some Technical tips for non technical people will be offered:
I will introduce 3 uncomplicated camera settings that will help you move off auto and start to understand your camera capabilities. I will break down the decision process so you can see when to use shutter priority or aperture priority for more creative control.

As part of the tuition here is what you receive:
Photo field note cards that summarize the key points from the lessons we cover so you can refer to these when you are out on your own.
Small group instruction and creative assignments to challenge your seeing and get you out of your "photo rut".
After class critique of your photos so you can keep the learning going.

We will take it slow so you can get perfectly exposed images that tell a story.
Moderate walking for this one. I will offer a sort route and longer for those who want to get more exercise.

“Newburyport, MA, is known for being a beautiful coastal city to visit any time of the year because of its old-time charm with a twist. New shops and restaurants are constantly opening, and visitors are always welcome. The city was established in the mid-1800s but has evolved immensely since then. Newburyport is most popular during the summer and fall.”

Getting there: I will be taking the 9:30 am train from North Station only $10. round trip! Cheaper than driving and parking for the day. So you are welcome to ride along with me. Or if you drive, meet us at the Chamber of Commerce at 11am.
