As a special follow-up to our February 20th meetup (http://www.meetup.com/The-Takoma-Park-Book-Club-Meetup-Group/events/160429412/), those interested in seeing the movie, Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse-Five_%28film%29) can meet at a private residence in University Park on Wednesday, February 26th at 6:30 p.m. The movie will start at 7:00. It runs 104 minutes. Kurt Vonnegut wrote about this film adaptation of his novel, "I love George Roy Hill [the Director of the film] and Universal Pictures, who made a flawless translation of my novel Slaughterhouse-Five (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse-five) to the silver screen ...I drool and cackle every time I watch that film, because it is so harmonious with what I felt when I wrote the book." The film won the Prix du Jury at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, as well as a Hugo Award and Saturn Award. Both the director and the screenplay writer were nominated for awards by their respective guilds. The star of the film, Michael Sachs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Sacks), was nominated for a Golden Globe.
This meetup is the next in a series we have been doing where we meet after discussing the book, and we watch the film version and point out all the ways it is different from the book and critique the success of the adaptation. Past meetups have been great fun so far. So here's another go at it!
If you have not read the book but you want to see the film anyway, you are most welcome to join us!
