What we're about
If you enjoy lively discussions about ideas, Talks, Docs, and Books might be a good fit for you. We meet regularly to attend public talks, lectures, documentaries, and other cultural and current affairs events, but the heart of this group is monthly book nights. Unlike the usual book club format, members each bring a book that they would like to report on and discuss. This serves as a jumping off point for some interesting and enlightening conversations. Any genre is welcome--the only restriction is that it not be a book that you wrote yourself.
To join this group, you will need to have or create a profile that includes your first name and a recognizable photo of yourself (i.e., a close-up of your face--no sunglasses, helmets, big hats, friends, pets, children, sunsets, flowers, avatars, etc) Potential new members are also asked to respond thoughfully to the profile questions. Join requests that don't include these basics will be declined.
Obviously, treating fellow group members with respect is a must. Members who are unable or unwilling to do so may be removed from the group at the organizer’s discretion. This group does not support the promotion of products and services, including any book a member may have written.
RSVPs and no-shows
If you are a no-show two times, you will be removed from the group without further notice. If you say you’ll attend an event, please be considerate and either come to the event and connect with the group, or change your RSVP by the day before. Otherwise, you may be counted as a no-show.
Note: “No” RSVPs are only necessary if you have already said yes to an event and need to change your status. No need to say no if you’ve never said yes. If you’re not interested in the event, just delete the announcement message.
We encourage active members! Members who haven't at least visited Talks, Docs, and Books for one year may be removed from the group without notice.
This group is set to "private – show limited information," which means that only other members of this group can see your group profile. Non-members can read about the group and the descriptions and dates of upcoming events, but they can’t see who’s attending the events or event locations. For more information on this privacy setting, see here (http://www.meetup.com/help/What-is-visible-and-what-is-hidden-in-private-Meetup-Groups/).
