Subject: [dachshund-339] Our Doxie Rescue In the Press!

Hey Everyone~
Just an update on Addison, the doxie that was sent to the pound by a meanie mom in a divorce situation. For those that don't know the story, in a nutshell: Our meetup site received an email from the Vaughn family requesting help getting their doxie Addison out to them in Kansas. A young girl was living here in Tampa with mom and it wasn't going well, so she went to live with dad and stepmom in Kansas. The mom here in Tampa sent the girl's doxie to the pound. The family in Kansas called around to the shelters and found her at Animal Services on Faulkenburg Rd. I responded to the email on our site and told them I would help if they needed it. Turns out the transportion part was a challenge, so I offered to fly her to Kansas. I have a ton of Skymiles, so I booked the flight and we leave Monday morning.
Mike at animal services is a doxie lover (he has 5) and has been keeping Addison in his office during the day and taking her out to play. The vet there updated her shots and cleaned her teeth for free! They prepared her travel documentation and bought her a softside carrier! They also packed a little travel kit with sedatives and tummy medicine etc. When I called Delta to book the flight, the reservationist was a doxie owner as well. After hearing about Addison, he bumped us to first class!
Now the community liason at the shelter (Marty Matthews) is getting requests from the media about this story. Sooo, when I go pick up Addison tomorrow the press will be there to start her story. Apparently, they are trying to see us off at the airport and be there for the reunion in Kansas as well! The animal shelter is decorating her carrier! LOL. I'm making her a personalized tote bag for some goodies. The family is worried about repercussions from mom where custody is concerned bc there is a younger sibling still here in Tampa, so the story will be spun to say a lost dog gets reunited with it's owner and also about how us doxie owners are tight knit and help eachother out. Animal services has nicknamed the mom, "The Grinch"! LOL!
So, even though I'm not comfortable with the press part, I'll do it for the Animal Shelter and the positive press it will bring for them and our local doxie rescue groups. I'll let everyone know when it airs. I'm not quite sure yet.
Talk to you soon!
