What we're about
Here’s a question with three words that has a thousand answers: What is philosophy?
From the time of Thales to the right now we live in a great deal has been written about philosophy. Any one definition might suffer from being too elastic, evasive and simple. We might easily fix the answer to its etymological sense and say Philosophy is the love of wisdom. But what is wisdom? Is wisdom the search for knowledge? Is wisdom the embodiment of the rational thought process? Is wisdom the search for goodness? Is wisdom an acute awareness of our ignorance: Socrates is wise because Socrates knows he is not wise.???
And: How can we talk about one Philosophy when Philosophy is a plurality of philosophies? In an Hegelian way of looking at it, we can say that Philosophy is the totality of all the various schools of philosophy that have existed and which are in constant discord with each other over the true philosophy. Philosophy elevates argument to a combat sport.
