Keep HART locally owned and operated!
Let's STOP wasting taxpayer money on more HART/PSTA merger studies - they already have a robust collaboration where it makes fiscal sense. HART has done the hard work (PSTA hasn't) and HART has a 5 year balanced budget plan that DOES NOT include supporting rail. Let's keep it that way and their budget balanced!
Even if you cannot attend the HART meeting on Monday, you can contact the following and tell them you appreciate HART's 5 year balanced budget plan and you support a locally managed, operated and funded HART and oppose any merger or JPA with PSTA. Thanks.
Sen. Latvala: http://www.flsenate.gov/Senators/s20
At this meeting there will be a resolution considered by the board to withdraw from any further talks on merger or Joint Power Authority AND a resolution to withdraw Hart Board Member's prior votes cast at December meeting at a joint meeting with PSTA to go forward to study the joint power authority thru a study to be funded by the state of Florida.
Showdown by HART Board with PSTA and Sen Jack Latvala?
HART Board members are rejecting a strong arm attempt by Sen Jack Latvala and Brad Miller of PSTA to a takeover of the Hillsborough Transit Bus System to accomplish Pinellas County goals of building light rail.
TBARTA who is also once again pushing their rail, costly transit-oriented development agenda has much greater influence over PSTA. This merger would be the Progressive's logical step to consolidating into a regional TBARTA taxing authority. Regional taxing authorities enables special interests, removes local control and results in higher costs over the long term as they are an arm's distance from local taxpayers. It becomes much more difficult for local taxpayers to fight regional taxing issues. Let's keep HART locally owned and operated!
This oped from the Tampa Bay Times is hysterical: http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/editorials/hart-hysteria-doesnt-square-with-facts/1267544
