  • Beginners' Group Ride (12/13mph pace ~ 13 or 16 miles)

    Maple View Farm Ice Cream

    Ever wanted to join those big group rides you see on the weekends? Or even a smaller group ride with three or four friends? Come join our beginners ride and learn all the slang, the tips and tricks of the trade, and the etiquette of how to ride in a group.

    This ride will be led by a pair of experienced riders, Cynthia Shimer and Corinne Powell. One of will ride at the front and other at the back. We will cover the basics of group riding—pacelines, group ride etiquette, safety, and pacing—before heading out for a loop at around 12-13mph (distance TBD but around 15 miles). Total time will be about 2 hours (15-20 minutes of pre-ride tutorial, ~90 minutes of riding).

    This is a no-drop ride, meaning no one will be left behind. The ride leaders will factor in at least one regroup point to stop and wait for anyone struggling to keep up and the ride leader at the back will help keep everyone on the paceline.

    No definite route has been set yet, but something like this would work time wise and give a nice tour of some of our regularly ridden roads. There will be both some short (not steep) hill climbing and a good descent on Borland, both of which review skills and techniques you will need for riding this bumpy region of NC.

    ```
    While we now have ample daylight for the summer, autos approaching from the rear on the Borland climb can have the setting sun in their eyes. As a result a red rear light is highly recommended.
    NOTE:
    • The ride is limited of 16 participants.
    • RSVP IS REQUIRED for all riders.
    • If you plan to join the ride in progress, please leave a comment indicating where you intend to meet us.
    The ride will be canceled in the event of rain or other water-based precipitation or if the temperature is expected to drop below freezing at any point during the ride.
