• Ugly Sweater Ride
Let’s get out those ugly holiday sweaters and go for a ride. You aren’t limited to just ugly sweaters.... Santa, Elves.... whatever your holiday spirit desires can be worn! This will be a NO stop ride! Pace is around 16-17 as it’s just for fun. Route will be same as last year. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26554387 If the weather is terrible (rain, snow, below freezing temps) then I will cancel or reschedule. Let’s get together after the ride for a beer or two... location to be posted later).

  • Tuesday Evening Year Round Ride: IGNITER
Year-round ride leaving Wilson Park at 6:15pm on Tuesdays. 22.5 mile lolipop, that goes up Borland Road and returns via Orange Grove and Dairyland. 18-19 mph average with regroup at designated points. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18719788 Note that the Carolina TarWheels requires a completed waiver for all riders. Current TarWheels members need to submit a waiver only once each season. This can be done online at this link: http://tarwheels.net/ewaiver Alternatively, you may complete a paper waiver. Nonmembers will need to complete the paper waiver. You can download a copy from http://tarwheels.net/waiver.pdf You may print a copy, complete it, and bring it to the ride. I will also have blank copies available at the ride start. Head and taillights are required from ~ mid-September until spring. Headlights must be bright enough to for you to see by, an in-town lamp powered by disposable batteries doesn't fit the bill. A loaner can often be arranged, post a comment and we'll try to arrange one. The ride will be canceled in the event of rain or other water-based precipitation or if the temperature is expected to drop below freezing at any point during the ride. Historical Note: The ride was initially established in 2007 as a MS-150 training ride by Teams GSK and NORTEL. The name IGNITER Indefatigable [team] GSK Nortel Invigorating Tuesday Evening Ride originated because participants continued to ride even when temperatures and daylight were low.

  • A- Short-Pull Ride (55-75 @ ~20 mph)
This is a pace-line training ride emphasizing the group. There will be 2-6 competitive segments(sprints and/or climbs) with regrouping afterward. This is not a hammer ride or race simulation. Riders should take short pulls (30-90 seconds) at the front so the group self-regulates its pace. If you're having a bad day please take extremely short or no pulls in order to hang with and not slow the group. But don't suck wheel all day and then contest competitive sections. We're all domestiques on this ride. • Important to know If you are not a Tarwheels member, please complete and submit this waiver: http://tarwheels.net/ewaiver

  • B18 ride -10:00 am
Weekly ride, depending on weather: if no route listed, there's no ride. A "constant effort" pace line group, slow up, fast down. Those in front control the pace: increasing power uphill creates gaps, maintain power downhill to avoid braking. Also need to be aware of gaps and call out where holes are. You can find this week's route here: PLEASE RSVP and print your own cue sheets. Also, take a minute to electronically fill out the Tarwheels ride waiver before coming out to the ride. *** WAIVER *** http://tarwheels.net/ewaiver MEMBERS need only do this ONCE a YEAR. NON-MEMBERS are required to do this before EACH RIDE, please consider becoming a member Please consult the TarWheels website for Ride policies like helmets required (http://tarwheels.net/wp/policies/) and the BikeWalkNC website for guidance on riding in pacelines and group sizes - Group Bicycling Best Practices: Skills and Techniques (http://www.bikewalknc.org/group-bicycling-best-practices-skills-and-techniques/) Those include safety notes like: helmet required, hold your line (and speed. Swerving and slowing would crash others.)
