.Net developers are celebrating the release of .Net Core 3.0, which makes it a great time to have a retrospective on how we got here. In this talk we will look at the bumpy road that the .Net Framework and .Net Framework related technologies have taken since 1.0 first went into beta in 2000. We will talk about the revolution of managed code and briefly talk about .Net technologies that you will see as a .Net developer. These include ADO.Net, ASP.Net, Windows Forms, WPF, and WCF. We will also talk about frameworks built on top of .Net like Silverlight and Xamarin. This is a fun Halloween-themed look at what technologies worked, and which ones flopped and a history lesson from developers whose careers paralleled the technology.
