Raquel Velez: Robots...and JavaScript?!

Once upon a time, there was a roboticist named Raquel Vèlez...

So what does one do with JavaScript-enabled robots? How does one get started? What does it all even mean?!

Come Xplore
• Robots of the past, present, and future;
• How to build a NodeBot (using easy-to-find hardware and Node.js); and
• The NodeBot revolution, and what it means for all of us

Raquel's Previous Talk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SssnWZzLGvo

Agenda

6:17 PM: Delicious Food, Craft Beer Tasting, Music & Mingling

7:07 PM: NodeBots

7:42 PM: Q&A

Fun Dress Code: anything with black or orange :)

Meet Raquel

Raquel "@rockbot" Vèlez received her BS in mechanical engineering from Caltech and then (played with | built | programmed | psychoanalyzed) robots for 8 years, at places like NASA JPL, the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and various universities in Europe. She left the lab in 2012 to start a new life online as a web developer, and is now a software developer at npm, Inc. in Oakland.
In her off time, you can find Raquel baking, hacking on Node.js, and speaking. Also, hanging out with her hilarious husband and two cats dressed in dog suits. She's online at http://raquelvelez.com

    Awesome meetup. Paypal is the best venue! This meetup made me build my first robot with a bunch of lego technik, a pi and microduino ☺

    Another successful meetup. Interesting to see how easy you can get started with your own robot using just an Arduino, some electronics and JavaScript. Learned about Nodebots, Node.js and the Johnny-Five framework. And there are even more JavaScript robotics frameworks out there like Cylon.js (http://cylonjs.com) which I saw in action on the AppsWorld conference in SF in February. It's time to order an Arduino and get going...

    Paypal puts on the best Tech events in town, and this time was no exception. The open atmosphere, food, entertainment, and diverse array of technical topics make these a very unique set of experiences for the community. I am thankful for the speakers and organizers. I hope to be doing more with robots and Javascript in the future!
