St. Mary's Falls Trail

St.Mary's Falls is an intermediate hike in the Cheyenne Canyon Area. The trailhead is located just above Helen Hunt Falls at the intersection of High Drive and Gold Camp Road. For the first mile the trail makes an U-shaped bend as it follows the Gold Camp Road. Exit the road after you pass a collapsed tunnel. Trail #624 then continues along a creek through the Buffalo Canyon. After about 1.7 miles you will reach the sign pointing to the base of the St Marys Falls. After enjoying the view of the falls you can continue up through several switchbacks to the top of the falls or continue to Mount Rosa.

Length: 6.2 miles roundtrip

Directions: Coming south on I-25 take exit 140 to access Cheyenne Canyon. Drive all the way through past Helen Hunt falls until you reach parking lot at intersection with Gold Camp Road

To ones left is a very nice view of Colorado Springs with the Broadmoor Hotel in the foreground. Trout may be seen in the creek.

Difficulty: Moderate

Bring adequate water for hike, dress in layers, trekking poles may be useful, and wear adequate shoes or boots for hiking.

Another fun day of hiking with this great circle of friends. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Chris, who used her eagle eyes to spot the cell phone that fell out of my pack.

Great hike with great friends -- my GPS said 6 miles in a little over 3 hours. This was the day of minor mishaps -- getting lost and late to the start point (sorry!), an almost-lost cell phone, abdominal cramps and a minor fall that could have been so much worse. I promise not to whine so much next time (or else I'll bring the wine). The food at the small Greek fest was great too. Can't wait to see you guys next time!

For those who love to eat -- the Greek Festival is happening at Archangel Michael Greek Church, 2215 Paseo Rd. this weekend. It's about 15 or 20 minutes from where we will be parked, if anyone is interested in traveling northeast for a delicious bite to eat after the hike!
