Citizen Science trip on Hiwassee River with TN Aquarium Conservation Institute

Join us for a fun and educational day with the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute as we sample the Hiwassee River with aquatic biologists from the institute. Expect to be in & out of the river as we use seine nets to capture fish in the Hiwassee.  This will allow TNACI to check on fish populations, and allow attendees to learn about the amazing diversity of fishes found in the rivers of SE Tennessee.

Attendees should wear swimming trunks & water shoes and bring a towel. There is no fee for participation but a $5 donation will be collected from each participant to defray the expenses of TNACI staffers.

We will meet at 8:45am at the gravel parking lot across TN30 from the Hiwassee Corner Market. At 9am we will travel a short distance to meet the TNACI staff and start the day. Registration for this fun day will begin on June 27 at 8:45 am. Space is limited to 20 participants.

It was first time experience in this kind of meetup. I leaned some about TN fish - particularly about 'dale bender"

I do not know where Starbucks-Hamilton is but I will be driving from Vonore (411 S); I would be glad to car pool if you are on my way. Please let me know.

Is there a carpool that will meet at Starbucks-Hamilton Place and then go up? Or are we just meeting at corner market?

I'm thinking about going on this trip, but I would be more interested in documenting it as a photographer more than seining for fish (although that would be fun as well!). Would that be OK? I can certainly do both, but I'd love to capture the action and experience.
