Hiking Distance :
This should be about 14 miles. The kicker! Almost 3000 feet of elevation gain!!!
30 minutes from Alpine Hideaway Campgrounds
We will start at the Alum Cave Trailhead. We will climb up the Alum Cave trail and pass the Arch Rock. Past there we next will reach Inspiration Point, this will give us a great view of the valleys and peaks around us. Next we will reach the bluffs that are called Alum Cave. Next we reach Gracie's Pulpit (named for Gracie McNichol who hiked to Mount LeConte on her 92nd birthday). The next bit will take us past some ledges and then we reach the Mt. Leconte Lodge. We will continue past and proceed to Myrtle Point which will give us a vista view of everything! We the go back the way we came! If we determine we have time we will take a short spur to Cliff Top before heading down the mountain!
VERY Strenuous, for distance and an extreme ascent. DO NOT SIGN up for this strenuous all day event if you are not in good physical condition!
Bring plenty of water and snacks to sustain you.
I am not sure of the time but I'm guessing 7-9 hours based on reports from a couple of other hikers posts online.
Hiking shoes or strongly recommended we will be out there a long time. If the ground is wet, or it's raining, the dry creek beds will become stream crossings and the trail will get muddy and messy. A spare pair of dry socks is recommended.
