We are an outdoor group for people who love to hunt fossils, rocks, minerals, and artifacts in the Texas hill country and beyond. We welcome amateur rock hounds, professionals, and anyone who just gets a kick out of digging in the dirt. Our adventures will include mostly day trips, with an occasional camping trip, to local sites and ranches known for specific rocks and gems that allow us to keep what we find and possibly trips to to locations beyond Texas as well. Some of our field trips have age restrictions but we've had a good variety of trips that are family/kid friendly. We let you know in the details of each meetup if it's kid friendly. Just ask if you'd like clarification.
We occasionally have "non-field trip" related events, such as educational meetings or outings. With that said, we don't fulfill the purpose of specialized "clubs", such as your local Gem & Mineral Society. The availability of someone to help us learn what the specimens are that we have is a rare luxury. But, there are many in our group who attend field trips who are knowledgeable in one or more areas of this hobby & are more than happy to share what they know. We just want to make sure there aren't any unrealistic expectations.
Also, please be patient with us organizers :). Because we enjoy this hobby, we volunteer our time to set up field trips, answer questions, maintain the site, etc. We also pay a fee to Meetup to have this club. We are not paid or reimbursed for our time or associated expenses. The majority of our field trips have been free. If there are any fees charged in relation to any field trips or events, it goes straight to the property owner/organization/etc. - we make no profit :) other than the friendships we gain & experiences we enjoy along the way.
