Jamming for Dummies - Everyone Can Improv
Ever wonder how some musicians can just make up solos on the spot? This workshop explains some of the basic elements of the language of the improviser, including two common types of improvisation used in a variety of musical styles: improvising based on the melody and improvising based on the chord structure. This workshop is open to all levels and is useful to all instrumentalists. Registration: folkproject.org Information: [masked] Price: $40 Address: emailed upon registration at www.folkprojectg.org. PS: The day after you learn to improvise, head over to our "Strummin' with Mile 12" house concert / jam session at Mark & Robin's and show us what you learned.

    What we're about

This MeetUp is for musicians and music lovers who like to get together to share acoustic music. Activities include parties, workshops, jam sessions, open stages, sing-alongs, dances, and performances. Styles include contemporary folk, blues, traditional, standards, jazz, and even a bit of rock 'n roll. The group is designed for participation by advanced musicians, beginning musicians, singers and non-musicians.

We hold two Getaway weekends – Memorial weekend and Columbus weekend - plus a number of events at our home that combine house concerts with homemade music, parties, community and workshops. Our "mother ship," The Folk Project, runs homemade music functions throughout the year.

The Acoustic Getaway MeetUp is one function of the all-volunteer Folk Project, a nonprofit based in Morristown with over 500 members. The Project holds about 140 gatherings and performances each year. Learn more at www.folkproject.org (http://www.folkproject.org/) .
