Annual Spring Picnic and Brick Workout

Hello- Please read this posting in it's entirety before RSVPing.

The BATC was founded about 10 years ago, well before its arrival on  We are a "brick-and-mortar" club, meaning we have a membership that pays dues to support our members-only activities.  The spring picnic and brick workout is one of those activities, but I wanted to provide meetup members with the opportunity to join the BATC and take advantage of this and other member-only experiences like our free open-water swim coaching at GunPowder Falls State Park, race entry discounts, national and local tri-retailer discounts, our end of the season party, and of course our Spring Brick and Picnic! You also receive weekly emails of every workout (including members-only workouts, as we don't post everything on meetup).

Oh, and in case you are wondering our dues are $30 for a year (try getting an open water swim coach for $30).  A link to join may be found here:

That said, here is the info about our picnic as we announced it to members:

Join the Club for the annual (outdoor) season kick-off party on Saturday, April 27th.  This year we are holding the workout and picnic at Oregon Ridge Park where we have reserved a large pavilion, so please bring your family! (Note only one person must be a member- the rest of your family may come as guests b/c they support you all year!)

The events starts at 9:00AM  with a bike ride- we are offering 2 distances this year:

  • Approximately 40 mile ride and
  • A slower, shorter 25(ish) mile ride for those who havent been biking in the winter months.
  • Cue sheets are provided to everyone and the slower ride is a no-drop ride

Following the bike, members can go for a run in the fields or on the road.

The picnic will start around 11:30am and we will have music, drinks (water, gatorade, and beer), and grill-food (menu not set, but thinking hamburgers, veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches, and your typical picnic sides).  We have also reserved the horseshoe pit and there is a pretty large playground for kids. Pot-a-johns nearby and plenty of parking.

Please, please please help Sheryl and Linda with planning and RSVP for this event. prior to April 23rd. Please. [masked].

This was such a great idea. I was talking to a few others who are doing Columbia in May. We were talking about doing the bike course next week. Is there enough interest to do this an official club ride?

I can help with planning or prep! I'm on call that weekend, so I can't be sure how much I'll be available on the 27th.
