Local Events Update

From: Don R.
Sent on: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 11:04 AM
Hi Meetup Member,

Here are a few items and events I thought you might want to know about. Note the events set for this Frday and Saturday!

Sure hope that you were part of the packed house for the special presentation by Dr. Michael Greger at our Veg Dinner Series in Owings Mills. The event featured a review and quiz on the latest nutrition research of the past year. Dr. Greger was amazing!

One of our members, Jamie Cohen, was unable to find her much-loved bunny shaped serving dish after the dinner. Please let us know if you can help us locate it.

There?s also information below on Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary?s annual open house, which is always a terrific event.

Hope to see you at Earthsave?s October dinner, which will feature Registered Dietician Debbi Kauffmann talking about a nondiet approach to weight management.

Be well!

Peace, Don Robertson

DOCUMENTARY FILM SHOWING: of ?Black Diamonds: Mountaintop Removal and the Fight for Coalfield Justice?

Black Diamonds charts the escalating drama in Appalachia over the alarming increase in large mountaintop coal mines. These mammoth operations have covered 1200 miles of headwater streams with mining waste; demolished thousands of acres of hardwood forest; and flattened hundred of Appalachian mountain peaks. Citizen testimony and visual documentation interwoven with the
perspectives of government officials, activists, and scientists create a riveting portrait of an American region fighting for its life--caught between the grinding wheels of the national appetite for cheap energy and an enduring sense of Appalachian culture, pride, and natural beauty.
