Practice public speaking

If you want to practice public speaking in a very safe, supportive and encouraging group, come along! Whether you want to improve for work, generally build confidence or find your voice, practice can help improve your public speaking skills and techniques, and maybe even help enjoy it (??£$%^).

We have had 3 meets so far, with up to 9 people - we all just spoke, off the cuff or prepared for 5 mins standing up, had a little chat, about how it felt, and moved on. It was pleasant and very safe.

As an icebreaker, you will be given a 'job/profession' and need to talk for one minute about what's so great about that job. Testing thinking on your feet, optional, standing or sitting is fine. Its just a bit of fun, no pressure, and not obligatory.  You

Then will go round having 5 mins max each (no minimum), standing or sitting is your choice, you can prepare a talk if you want, or come and speak off the cuff. If you prepare a talk, any subject is ok. We are flexible - after all, this is 'no-pressure' practice!

Once you have spoken, you have a chance to say how it went. When everyone has spoken, we then have a general discussion/feedback/feed forward - how we can improve, but without individual feedback unless it is specifically requested!

You can speak about ANYTHING, but if you prefer some guidance by way of a theme, for April's meeting it will be: Community

The room is a little dark and was a bit chilly, so you may wish to bring a jumper. However, it is quiet, private, large, central and free!! Happy to take suggestions for other locations for future meets.

When you come in the bar, get a drink if you want, and ask for the upstairs room - no bar upstairs.

This is not public speaking training or a debating group.

Thanks to Colin for facilitating. I had not been well enough to prepare in advance, and came away feeling a little "bruised"

Sometimes happens but don't let that put you off .It helps to be able to do some things 'off the cuff '. :-)
