The Bay Area Clojure User Group SF Meetup
As usual, we’ll start with mingling over food and drinks, follow with presentations, and wrap up with Q&A. Food and drinks provided. Presentations: • Blockchain basics in Clojure -- Alex Stokes I'll cover the unique blend of cryptography and economics that makes blockchains work. We will discuss how a decentralized immutable ledger is formed and what incentives are at play to ensure everyone can trust their local view of the global state. These ideas will be made concrete by walking through a proof-of-concept blockchain I have authored in Clojure. Alex is a cryptoeconomist who has been studying blockchains for several years. He is a strong proponent of the potential behind these technologies and strives to share the excitement with as many other people as possible. • Writing decentralized (blockchain) applications in ClojureScript -- Derek Chiang I would like to share what I've learned from building my first dapp (decentralized application on Ethereum) in ClojureScript. I will give a high-level overview of key technologies such as blockchain, Ethereum, web3.js, MetaMask, etc., and then lead you through the steps of building a fully functional dapp. Derek is currently a senior engineer at DFINITY, a startup building a fast blockchain. Previously he was a lead developer at Pachyderm, a data analytics startup.
