The 7th Berlin Semantic Web Meetup will address the adoption of Web based information systems and semantic technologies in biomedical informatics, computational biology, chemistry, health care and life sciences.
One day before the Semantic Web Applications and Tools for Life Sciences workshop (SWAT4LS 2010) (http://www.swat4ls.org/2010/) we are organizing this meetup to bring together the international workshop participants with the local and regional Semantic Web community.
The Meetup participation is free.

Linked Environment Data and the Life Sciences
Environment Agencies from Europe and the US have started to publish Linked Data on the Web, including reference terminology and long-term analysis of substance exposure of humans, species and the environment in Germany. There should be cross-linking with contributions from the life sciences, such as Linking Open Drug Data (LODD), Darwin Core or BioRDF.
Speaker: Thomas Bandholtz, Principal Consultant at innoQ Deutschland GmbH. Project Manager, W3C eGov Interest Group Member (invited expert)
Chemistry is an important and high-value vertical in the modern world and the "semantification" of chemistry will be crucial for further rapid innovation not only in the discipline itself, but also in related areas such as drug discovery, medicine and materials design. A first step is the mapping of Chemistry data and information into a Linked Data representation for Semantic Chemistry.
Speaker: Richard Huber, FIZ Chemie Berlin
Vocabulary Management in the Healthcare and Life Science Industy
The talk will explain how vocabulary management is applied at Roche, Swizzerland, and what applications are used. It will further give an overview on practical examples of the use of semantic applications in the life science, healthcare and pharma industry.
Speaker: Wolf Winkler, Ontoprise GmbH
We also invite you to register for the SWAT4LS 2010 workshop (http://www.swat4ls.org/2010/rform.php). It will feature a one day workshop plus two days of associated hackathon and tutorials on Cloud Computing, Semantic Web Services and Linked Data in the Life Sciences.
