The 2013-2014 Young Patriots essay contest is now underway. This year's competition gives high school students the opportunity to win up to $5,000 in college scholarships. Details for composing and submitting entries may be found online. The contest is open to all high school students, so if you know of a deserving student please forward this information to them. The deadline for submitting entries is December 31, and this year's winner will be recognized at the NCPA/Hatton W. Sumners Distinguished Lecture featuring former Reagan Administration CBO director David Stockman. We look forward to reading this year's essays. For the recordInvest in Keller was a non-profit group formed by Mayor McGrail, Councilman Miller and Councilman Hoffman to try to pass the Transportation Bond.  For those who keep asking me how much did all the Pro Bond advertising cost,  they need to understand anything with Invest in Keller, flyers,mailings, robo-calls and signs were paid for by their group.  The city did some advertising as well. Perhaps at the next Council meeting there will be a open and transparent report on the city expense and the Invest in Keller group expenses.

"Several courts were empty with no judges on the bench all day. Another quiet day in Tarrant Family Courthouse."

"Mother has two simultaneous cases, CPS and modification. She was begging to see the kids because there was no visitation schedule and she had not seen them in a long time. The mother was deemed unstable after she learned through another family member that her children were molested. She told the court that since she had counseling she is emotionally stable and she wants to see her kids. An
amicus attorney was appointed in the modification case. The entire case is confidential and not available to the public."

"Judge was pleasant to other women. Judge was genuinely nice."

"A bailiff asked me if I had a recording device."

"Judge told family 'if they did not raise that child, the District and Associate Judge would find someone to raise the child. If you parents can not act like adults, I will switch custody.'

"Court reporters are sitting only in District courts yet nothing is being recorded. The reporter just sits there. No record of the proceedings."

"No one was in the courtroom other than the attorneys and me yet one attorney asked to speak in the judge's chambers....and they did. I heard nothing about the case other than it was the amicus attorney that requested the private meeting."

Unfortunately, according to the attorneys who chose to participate, we have far more fair to poor evaluations than excellent.  It could be democrats voting against republican judges?  Ask a judge and then ask an attorney, is this a fair evaluation?  Family courts did not fair so well.

I am just the messenger who would like to see the taxpayers get their monies worth for the tax dollars that pay the salaries. Judges hire their own associates from a pool.  I hope they look at the evaluations and  ask around about the poor performance of their employee.  As a taxpayer, I am deeply concerned that Tarrant County attorneys have such a low opinion of some of our elected judges and unelected associate employees.  Taxpayers come before these folks just wanting a fair and just trial.  Rule of Law.  Not Social Justice.
