Live by Night begins in 1926, a time when the black market's maze of underground distilleries and speakeasies is home to gangsters and corrupt cops. A tale of swindling and strong-arming in Boston, Florida, and Cuba that pits one gangster against another in a fight for respect, superiority, and firm control of the Atlantic Coast's rum business.

Counted as "among the most interesting and accomplished American novelists of any genre or category" by the Washington Post, Dennis Lehane is the author of nine previous novel including New York Times bestsellers Moonlight Mile, The Given Day, Shutter Island, Mystic River, and Gone, Baby, Gone. Lehane is also the author of Coronado, a collection of short stories, and a play. A Shamus, Anthony, and Barry Award winner, as well as a finalist for the PEN/Winship Award for Mystic River, and recipient of the Massachusetts Book Award in Fiction, Lehane divides his time between Florida's Gulf Coast and Boston, where he is a trustee of the Boston Public Library.
