*** Thanks to our friends at SCIP for loaning a projector :) ***
There seems to be much interest in different forms of collaborative consumption and crowd funding to help create a better economy. There are many exciting projects already happening in Brighton, with ventures such as The Bevy, Exeter Street Hall and Stay Up Late having all used this method in some way to raise funds and grow their community. We've only scratched the surface in realising the potential impact it could have for our community.
At this event, we will hear stories and learn about three types of crowd funding:
- Iain Chambers will tell the story of how Exeter Street Hall used crowd funding to sell £150,000 of shares that secured ownership of the Hall for the community.
- Mike Royston from crowd funding platform StartSomeGood.com will talk about creating campaigns that use rewards as incentives to fund projects.
- Chris Sutton from Purple Dot will talk about peer-to-peer finance to provide local, ethical investments and funding for better businesses.
With our imaginations inspired we will then have time to break into groups to apply this thinking, perhaps generating new campaign ideas or applying it to existing ventures.
