I'm forming a group of about eight talented screenwriters to share ten page sequences from features we're working on to discuss and improve every week. I expect we'll be social as well as professional with one another.
I will interview candidates and take my time putting the team together, so we all really get a lot out of it. Please start by messaging me on Meetup. I'll share my email for you to submit 5-10 pages of a feature or episodic screenplay you've written in PDF format. Only writers with properly formatted screenplays and correct spelling or grammar will be considered. I want the focus of the group to be on character and story development, not nuts and bolts. To reduce spam, I will only consider applicants with profile photos.
My name is Chris. I taught screenwriting for a year and a half at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I've provided feedback to several professional filmmakers, including Aaron Mendelsohn, Peter Templeman and Marc Meyer. They're not big names, but they pay their bills with it. You can look them up on imdb. I think you'll find my suggestions helpful and encouraging.
I've written a few features and episodic screenplays. I haven't tried to sell or produce any of them, because I have been choosing ambitious projects and I sensed the feedback I received from other folks indicated they weren't potent enough yet. You'll see. I'm happy to share my own samples. I like Charlie Kaufman, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarrantino and David Milch.
I'm currently polishing a feature before adapting it to a graphic novel, so people can get a clearer vision of the film. I have directed and produced dozens of shorts, which you can check out on my website: www.ragcha.com.
I also screen films and shows at my place, which you'd be welcome to come to. I have a projector and surround-sound speakers. I live in Park La Brea. We can meet at my place or in nearby cafés or restaurants. I'm happy to mix it up.
Let me know if you have any other suggestions about how to put the best damned group of writers and friends together possible.
