  • Search Tool Engineering at GitHub & Advanced Debugging with LLDB

Join us on Tuesday, March 19th for *two* exciting talks featuring Frank Jania of GitHub & Vadym Apostolyuk of Tendigi. This event will be generously hosted by the Dumbo Heights WeWork. They request that we provide an RSVP list with full names and that everyone bring a photo ID to check in. ~Frank Jania~ "What are you looking for?" - a talk about building search tools There's a very good chance that everyone attending has used GitHub and an almost identical chance that everyone attending has done a search on GitHub. (There's also a pretty good chance it's let you down too.) Tonight we'll talk about what it means to search a behemoth like GitHub and how we're trying to make it much, much better. Some of these are technical challenges, some are philosophical, all are interesting. Come to listen, or also come prepared to tell me all about your experience using search on GitHub, or anywhere. My name is Frank Jania and I manage the team responsible for engineering search at GitHub. I've got 20 years of experience in software engineering and management at IBM, Google, Betaworks, and Uber before moving over to GitHub. Some more about me at http://fjania.com and @fjania on Twitter. ~Vadym Apostolyuk~ Advanced Debugging with LLDB Debugging is not the most popular task in software development, but it's critical for shipping quality software. There will always be bugs in software and no amount of test coverage can fix that. Debugging should be a way to better understand what the code is doing rather than a process of fixing something that's broken. This talk dives into 10 awesome debugging techniques and shows a few reverse engineering methods. My name is Vadym Apostolyuk and I work as an iOS Developer at Tendigi. I have about 5 years of experience and you can find me on Twitter at @may_ber00t where I tweet a lot about Swift, iOS Development, Tesla and SpaceX.

  • Summer Kickoff! iOS Build Process

    WeWork Dumbo Heights

We're back! Join us on Tuesday, July 31st for our first *true* meetup in... well... a long time. We'll hear an incredible talk on the iOS build process from Michael Sanderson! This event will be generously hosted by the Dumbo Heights WeWork. They request that we provide an RSVP list with full names and that everyone bring a photo ID to check in. Refreshments will be provided. Michael Sanderson Pipeline to the Fastlane: iOS Continuous Deployment from Xcode Scheme to App Store Release To go from code on your machine to an amazing user experience out changing the world, your iOS app must go through the arduous, multi-step build process: schemes, configuations, xcconfig, entitlements, assests scrips and the info.plist are involved. If your app is going up to the cloud, there are still more considerations of source control and CI machines; then Testflight and release. This talk aims to show how all these moving pieces fit together. We’ll explore the depth of the build process and shine a light on its more obscure pieces, as well as looking at how to use it to handle some common deployment scenarios. Control of the iOS app build system can turn the release process from painful manual stumbling through steps in the dark, to the ease of a system that works automatically out of sight, that takes your work and distributes it safely and reliably whenever needed, freeing you to look for new horizons. Michael Sanderson has been building iOS apps full-time since iOS 6, ranging from consumer-facing apps at scale, including working on apps for Shake Shack and Wegmans’ supermarkets; to connected hardware, at smart luggage maker Raden; to secure messaging at Wickr, inc. Past talks at New York iOS meetups include “Mutants of UIKit” and the ‘Game of Thrones’-themed talk, “Coding Defensively Against APIs”. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sandersonmichael/
