Its time for the 3rd Annual Burlington Mini Maker Faire!
"Building STEAM in Burlington!" An Expo Event of the NC Science Festival
Hosting the Elon Science Expo
The Third Annual Burlington Mini Maker Faire is a day long celebration of creativity, science, ingenuity, art, and play. A family friendly event that will inspire you to get your hands dirty making something of your own!
Our theme this year is "Building STEAM in Burlington" (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) a recognition of a life long love of learning added to the can-do spirit of the maker in all of us. We're bringing together makers from across the region and across the spectrum of creativity and fun. Many of your favorites from the last two years will be returning with familar and new projects. You'll also meet new makers and see awesome projects. Many exhibits are interactive and will allow you and your family to make something of your own that you can take with you. Our event runs from 10:00am until 5:00pm (Rain or Shine) at the Holly Hill Mall and Business Center here in Burlington NC. Attendance is Free, though we do ask that you use our free online ticketing system to register for a ticket in advance of the event (to help our makers plan for the right amount of stuff to bring for interactive exhibits). In exchange for registering for a free ticket you'll be entered into a random drawing for several different prizes including a subscription to Make Magazine and other items made by our makers. Tickets can be registered via our eventbrite page at:
This year we are again an expo event of the state-wide month-long NC Science Festival. A celebration of Science and STEM Education. As part of the NC Science Festival we are also pleased to be partnered with Elon University and in addition to all of our other makers we are hosting 10-15 science themed exhibits by Elon Faculty and Students. We'll also have a series of lightning talks by Elon Students, Faculty, and Local Makers. Weather Permitting we hope to have another Near Space balloon launch to the edge of space. NC Near Space will be launching an instrumented balloon to record the curvature of the Earth! The popular Make and Take exhibit will be returning this year. Under supervision you and your family can take apart electronic and mechanical devices, see what makes them tick, and reassemble the parts into something new and artistic. (many thanks to Alamance Habitat for Humanity and May Memorial Library for supporting this exhibit!)
We'll have electric vehicles, robotics, musical tesla coils, recycled crochet, woodworking, blacksmithing, retro-computing, ham radio, arduino, art, science projects, theater props, cosplay, projects by teens, homebrewers, and much more. Something to interest and inspiration to everyone!
