CFAA will guide attendees in learning the step-by-step process of making
a short film. Every month will bring us closer and closer to the actual pr

n## **CALL TIME: 7pm-9pm**\n\n## **TOPIC: Picture Lock & Edit /
Final Spotting Session**\n\n## Join us for the next installment of our **S
tep-by-Step Filmmaking Series**!\n\n## Having already selected our script
and scouted locations\, we are now moving into the critical pre-production
phase: translating the vision into a technical plan and building the team
to execute it. This month\, we dive deep into:\n\n## Picture Lock & Edit
and Final Spotting Session.\n\n### **Core Topics**\n\n* **Picture Lock:**
This is the phase where the visual edit of the film is finalized. No furth
er cuts or timing changes are made to the footage\, allowing the technical
teams (sound\, color\, VFX) to begin their work on a stable timeline.\n*
**The Edit:** Insight into the technical and creative choices made during
the assembly of the film to ensure the narrative flow aligns with the dire
ctor's vision.\n* **Final Spotting Session:** A collaborative review where
the director and editor meet with the composer and sound designer. They "
spot" (identify) exactly where music should start/stop and where specific
sound effects are needed.\n*\n\n## \\*\\*AT THE NEW CFAA LOCATION:\n\n## F
 utures Explored\,\n\n## 2553 R St.\,Sacramento CA 95816\n\n## **Don't miss

SUMMARY:CFAA Film Forum: 'The Filmmaking Series'
DESCRIPTION:The Capital Film Arts Alliance (CFAA)\n## Month by month\, the
CFAA will guide attendees in learning the step-by-step process of making
a short film. Every month will bring us closer and closer to the actual pr
oduction of this\, and the script has been selected\, so come and find out
more on every 3rd Tuesday! The best talent in the production industry wil
l be here to inform and aid the CFAA team to help YOU to make a movie!!\n\
n## **CALL TIME: 7pm-9pm**\n\n## **TOPIC: Callbacks & Casting of
'Decline'**\n\n## Join us for the next installment of our **Step-by-Step
Filmmaking Series**! Having already selected our script and scouted locati
ons\, we are now moving into the critical pre-production phase: translatin
g the vision into a technical plan and building the team to execute it. Th
is month\, we dive deep into:\n\n## **Callbacks and Casting**\n\n**Callbac
ks and casting** represent the final\, high-stakes phase of the pre-produc
tion process where a director and casting director select the actors who w
ill bring the script to life. In the context of the [CFAA Step-by-Step Fil
 mmaking Series](https://www.meetup.com/the-capital-film-arts-alliance-cfaa
/events/gfqdxtyjcjbhc/edit/)\, this phase is currently focused on the shor
t film **"Decline."** Over 30 actors read monologues and the list of those
15 that were selected has been created. They will read again using the pr
oject script and specific roles.\n\n### **The Casting Process**\n\nCasting
is the search for the right "fit" for a role. It isn't just about finding
a good actor\; it’s about finding the *right* actor for a specific visi
on.\n\n### **The Callback Phase**\n\nOnce the initial auditions are over\,
the "shortlist" of actors is invited back for a **Callback**. This is a m
ore rigorous session designed to test depth and chemistry.\n\n* **Directio
nal Adjustments:** The director will give the actor specific notes (e.g.\,
"Try it more aggressively this time") to see how well they take direction
.\n* **Chemistry Reads:** Often\, two actors up for different roles (like
a lead couple or siblings) will read together to see if their on-screen en
ergy is believable.\n* **The "Technical" Check:** Producers may look at ho
w the actor looks on camera or how their voice pairs with other cast membe
 rs.\n*\n\n## \\*\\*AT THE NEW CFAA LOCATION:\n\n## Futures Explored\,\n\n#
 # 2553 R St.\, Sacramento CA 95816\n\n## COMING UP...**We’ll be discussi
ng and offering feedback on the scripts that you voted for last month! Don
