May Meetup!

Wheeeeeeee!!! We are thrilled to have the support of Doggie Works for our May Meetup. Let's get all these monkeys together before it gets too hot for them!

As always, only well socialized French Bulldogs who are healthy and up to date on their shots are welcome.  If your dog gets sick we would rather offer you a refund than have you come and get other dogs unwell.

ONLY RSVP FOR YOUR DOG. WE DO NOT NEED A HUMAN COUNT, JUST A DOG COUNT! Don't take up space by including yourself or guests. Just please RSVP your dog(s) only.

Plenty of street parking available.

All proceeds benefit the Chicago French Bulldog Rescue.

See you in May!

Saturdays at 10:30 in Chicago. It is called Frenchie Fanatics and it is on the Animal Sense website. I think the class is on Leland.

What dates/times are the classes being held? Good to hear!

He is doing well. Kennel cough healed quickly. Thank G-d! I am now doing a Frenchie Fanatics class with Bruno in the city through Animal Sense, if anyone is interested.

We would be there's a pet c.p.r. class that day at oak brook kennel club. Thanks for the shout out. How's your baby?

    June 18, 2014

  • Jill R.

Actually the one time class is Saturday the 28th at 12:30.

Would anyone be interested in attending a French bulldog etiquette class at Paws 4 Paradise by o'Hare? I signed Bruno up for it. It is on the 29th of June. It is a one time class for $25. Let me know if you are interested. It is listed on the animal sense website which is a training facility for dogs.

Hopefully all the babies are getting better. When we had it a year ago we had no idea where it could have come from. Its stressful and for us turned to tracheobronchitis then pneumonia. 2.5 months. Couple thousand dollars there. We were nervous but still went to the Manny event and had a blast. Hope after everyone heals they still come to meet ups and fundraising events.

We also hope everyone gets better soon and doesn't go through what we did.

Kennel cough is highly contagious and could have come from anywhere. I thought Doggieworks was a great place and they were very gracious hosts. It could have come from anywhere and please tell the owner she should not feel responsible.

Hi everyone, Sandy from Chicago French Bulldog Rescue here. I spoke to the owner of Doggie Works who was very distressed to learn about the outbreak of kennel cough (KC). She assured me that none of the dogs that were boarded that day had or have since come down with KC. The space was thoroughly disinfected right before our meetup, as were the toys and water bowls. Kennel cough is HIGHLY contagious so more than likely the Frenchies themselves passed it around. It's very possible that the dog that had it was symptomless at the time of the meetup and infected the other dogs that day. I doubt that anyone would knowingly bring their sick dog to a meetup and you all would have noticed a dog if he/she were showing symptoms. We are so very sorry for the fact that many got sick but please don't blame the facility. We are always glad to receive your comments before or after meetups and thank you for letting us know. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Bruno went to the vet today and was put on an antibiotic and cough suppressant. He is significantly better. He has also had the Bortadella. His symptoms started Monday with him being lethargic. The honking cough began this morning.

Just as a side note, both of my boys played hard with everyone at the meetup and both Kermit and Dudley are fine, symptom free. They DO receive the Bordetella inhalant vaccine every year as they do go to doggie day care on occasion. I'm curious if the dogs experiencing the symptoms get that vaccine/inhalant? I do know it isn't a guarantee against kennel cough but helps.

    May 15, 2014

    • Fynvarrah

      Fully vaccinated here. Still sick.

      May 15, 2014

    • Amanda

When Beignet got it a year ago she was vaccinated as well. It only covers a fraction of the strains. Wonder if Doggie Works would say if they had other occurrences of it while we were there. There were toys AND communal water bowls that I wondered about.

      May 15, 2014

  • Bret H.

My Luna was fine she didn't have any symptoms and she does get the Bordetella too. But she also hates balls so she didn't play with anything there.

  • Amanda

Thanks for the response. We switch flavors of our grain free often. Something definitely seemed off for 3-4 days but seems mostly back to normal. It was a while after the meet up so I didn't even connect. Much like Stephanie's situation that didn't last long and didn't morph to something more. Boy oh boy. What to do about the Manny party?

    May 15, 2014

  • Amanda

Can anyone tell me if these symptoms just started? A couple days ago Beignet was uninterested in meals, she would eventually eat after great hesitation. I'm wondering if it could be related or am I now being paranoid? Any loss of appetites?

    May 15, 2014

    • Fynvarrah

No loss of appetite here. Kenzi does get bored of the same flavor food after a while tho. I try to order different flavors of her grain free food when I can, to keep her interested.

Hi there... Unfortunately my little Chowder got sick too, similar symptoms. He is under treatment and getting a bit better now. It was an awful week at home... Our baby had a very difficult time with constant visits to the vet. Also he won't be able to go to parks or play with his puppy friends for at least a month, which makes us all sad. It's really awful that this happened on his first meetup. Something should be done to prevent this kind of issues.

    May 15, 2014

  • Amanda

Very true Stephanie. Now I'm paranoid. Wondering if the Manny party is a good idea. Any thoughts?

    May 15, 2014

  • Stephanie

Also, it may not have been from someone at the meetup. It could have been from a dog at the daycare. Weren't our frenchies playing with toys from the doggy works? Or did those belong to the rescue?

    May 15, 2014

  • Stephanie

Mine was also sick for a few days. I think she was able to fight it off but did get dehydrated bc the first thing she gives up when she's sick is water. She's finally back to normal!

    May 15, 2014

  • Amanda

Our bout was over a year ago. Didn't notice any pups doing that at the meet-up. Ya if an owner knew then that would be awful!

    May 15, 2014

  • Sandy

My Frenchie was also at this event and is experiencing some of these same symptoms, coughing and lethargic. I guess it is time to make a vet appt. It is discouraging that owners would bring their frenchies to events like this where there is a potential infect the other dogs around...

    May 15, 2014

    • Sandy

      *sick frenchies

      May 15, 2014

  • Fynvarrah

Just had to take Kenzi to the vet. Dr. Says she has kennel cough and unfortunately Doggie Works is the only place it could have originated. Everyone keep a close eye on your Frenchies.

    May 14, 2014

    • Sandy

my frenchie has it too unfortunately also from this event.

      May 15, 2014

  • Fynvarrah

Same symptoms Jill. She just woke up sick, hard coughing and foamy spit ups. The vet gave her antibiotics and a follow up appt. Hope your pup gets better soon.

    May 15, 2014

  • Amanda

Most cases can be cleared up quickly. Ours was a year ago and not so easy. Keepin our fingers crossed for you both!

    May 15, 2014

  • Amanda

Those sound like all the same symptoms we saw when we had it.

    May 15, 2014

  • Jill R.

I think my dog may have it as well. He was making a honking coughing sound this morning and spitting up white phlegm. He has also been very lethargic. I'm taking him to the vet this morning. What were your dog's signs?

    May 15, 2014

  • Shelly Kermit D.

By any chance, anyone see a silver Canon Elph digital camera left at Doggie Works?

    May 11, 2014

  • Sarah G.

It was a blast as usual. Eddie had a great time running around with all of the Frenchies and slept really well once we got home.
