Puppy Mill Auction Update

From: Sandra
Sent on: Friday, April 27, 2012 12:42 PM

Hello,

Many of you will remember that last year a team from the Chicago French Bulldog Rescue (Meetup Sponsors & Hosts) went down to a puppy mill auction and saved many French Bulldogs from a life of misery at a mill.

This message is to inform you that Mary Scheffke (President of CFBR) and her volunteers are rescuing from a mill again this weekend. Her message and update is below.  CFBR is one of the only rescues that openly admits to raising money for and actively pulling dogs from mills.

If you would like to get updates regarding this journey please send a friend request to Mary Scheffke on Facebook for her to approve.  This is also the best way to learn about being a volunteer as once the dogs are back they will need baths, ear cleaning, nail trimming and LOTS of love.  Mary lives in Sandwich, IL.  If you need her address please email me at [address removed].  We have to wait and see what time Mary gets back on Sunday before we know what time we can arrive at her house to help.

The most costly part of this endeavor is yet to come, as all the dogs will go to the veterinarian, probably for the first time in their lives.  CFBR will need to pay for spay/neuters, heartworm tests, heartworm treatments, fecals, eye/ear/skin infections and a huge list of medical issues that need to be addressed before any of them can go up for adoption.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!

DONATE NOW AT:

http://www.frenchieporvous.org/donatenow

Please see if your company provides matching gifts to non-profits to double your donation.  All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE MEETUP ON SUNDAY:

I (Sandra) will be there along with Nirel our foster coordinator and Shelly our volunteer and board member. You can ask any of us for an update or how to get more involved.

We will also have a "donation jar" at the meetup to pay for veterinarian expenses.  Please be generous!

We always have a need for new or lightly used bedding, leashes, collars, crates, xpens or PetCo & PetSmart Gift Certificates.

THANK YOU

To those of you that donated to our mill matching grant challenge over the past few months or as recently as yesterday and this morning, we send you thanks from the bottom of our hearts.  The trauma and abuse these dogs suffer is beyond comprehension and we could not save them as as many of them without your help.

MESSAGE FROM MARY:

Last year we went to save frenchies from a puppy mill auction. It is mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting to do this as we cannot save them all. There will be 41 frenchies on the block for sale on 4/28. With donations sent to us to save frenchies from mill auctions- we are going down to see how many we can save. We will be leaving at midnight Friday night and will drive for 11 hours to get there just in time for the auction to start and see ...how many we can save!

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers that we have a safe journey and that luck is on our side and we can save many. I have a feeling that the prices are going to be high at this auction sadly and that will deter us from getting as many as we hope to. Tonite I start to gather all that we will need to go- crates and more crates, towels, baby wipes, water bowls and lots of caffiene drinks for us- as it will be a non stop journey of 22 hours of driving round trip with no sleep and lots of adrenaline! We will have a volunteer here posting updates as we are able to send them- there is no phone reception in the auction house.
