Re: [The-Classics-Book-Club-of-the-North-Metro] meet time and book selection To piggyback on the discussion between Pat and Alice, I’d like to say that even if we start with a book from the “classics” and move on from there to other books we know are good but not on the official list, that is fine.  I certainly don’t want to read a book that I don’t care for, simply because it is a “classic” and I am not necessarily up for a whole lot of blood and guts or too many depressing subjects at the moment.  But I think it was  Alice who made the observation that a book like Main Street, for example, can affect us differently at different times in our lives.  A book that we weren’t necessarily interested in when we were younger might be just the thing now, and vice-versa, I guess.  Also, I guess it should be acceptable if one of us finds the book not to her liking that we could just skip the meeting for that month.

Whatever is selected, I hope we will be given plenty of time to get it read, etc.  Also, just a thought: Will anyone propose some discussion questions to focus on for our books?  Might we also perhaps select two or three books the first time so that we can read ahead for a future meeting?  Just some thoughts...

Thanks!  - Linda (mettahu)
