Free Renesas Embedded Development Boards -- while they last

Free is always good.

I recently obtained two free boards from Renesas.

The RX210 can be requested from http://am.renesas.com... or http://am.renesas.com...

The RX62N board can be requested from http://am.renesas.com...

The RX210 board is small and low power. It can run off a button cell battery, for which a holder is attached to the board. The demo app is simple, using a few LEDs and a potentiometer.

The RX62N board is impressive. List price for this is $100. It includes a circle of LEDs to simulate three phase motor control, and comes with a long list of features: temp sensor, tilt sensor, mic, speaker, potentiometer, Ethernet, LCD. In the corner a small prototype area makes experimentation simple.

After ordering, both boards showed up within two weeks.

All the required software is free. They point you toward their HEW environment, which looks a lot like Visual Studio or IAR Workbench. Open source solutions are also available for the hard core Linux hackers.

Great stuff while it lasts.

Just received my RX62N. Definitely a feature packed board. They seem to have gone out of their way to label everything on the circuit board, and then some. I've never seen so much help text on the back of a circuit board.

Any boards left? It sounds like it has a nice set of on-board sensors.

There should be. Note that when you add the board to the cart, 'In Stock' shows as 0. It did when I ordered and the board did arrive.

It looks like I was able to successfully order the more advanced board. I'm hoping it arrives in a couple of weeks. If it does then I may bring it to our next meeting.
