Salmon River Trail Hike

This is not a beginner hike but will promise to be a fun hike led by Dave Crockett, Sue and Jennifer! So come out and play with them.
This will be a loop hike , dogs on leash will be allowed. Micro spikes are required for this hike as conditions were very icy in some places today. This hike features up and down terrain. a renovated covered bridge, views of the Salmon River and a beautiful waterfall. Hike is approximately 7 miles with areas of steep incline. Please do not use the "no" RSVP function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.

Food and Drink: A snack or two and TWO quarts of water! Please eat and drink plenty of fluids before you hike, if you are undernourished or dehydrated you will have trouble, which will ruin the hike for you and others.

Equipment: Spring may be just around the corner but be prepared as conditions in this area can differ greatly from where you live.  There most likely be snow and ice.

Two key pieces of equipment for early spring and winter hikng are Microspikes (required) and and trekking poles (suggested) which provide stability and support.

As with all hikes CT Alliance hikes, hiking boots/shoes are a must. We hike on trails not walking paths.  Proper clothing is also important; please dress appropriately but prepare for changing conditions as taking layers off or putting them on will assist in keeping you comfortable during the stretch of a hike.

Cotton is NOT appropriate wear during activities that cause you to sweat and cool therefore please select your hiking apparel with this in mind... denim is off limits as it becomes heavy and if wet becomes even more difficult. This will hinder your ability to keep pace with the group and negatively impact the enjoyment of those who came with proper dress/supplies for hiking.

If you are uncertain as to what clothing or items are considered hiking wear, please email me directly, or email any of the co-organizers. We will also be able to share referrals to suppliers of both new and gently used hiking apparel and supplies.

Link:  Salmon River State Forest (Note, this gives directions for the park across Route 16. The meeting place is the parking area by the covered bridge on Covered Bridge Rd. as noted above.)

Apres-hike:

As always, we will follow the hike with a social outing.  Stay tuned for details.

I had a great time and the hike was very well organized. The folks are very friendly and leaders did a great job. Only wish I could have hung around longer afterward.

I'm going to risk being yelled at for not reading carefully enough, but is this hike in Colchester or East Hampton? I've been told in the past the map links are not accurate....

Well I thought I could go to EMS or REI to get some Microspikes this afternoon but when I called they were both out of stock. Too late for overnight shipping. Any suggestions?

The apres hike location is Angellico's Lakehouse Restaurant, 81 North Main Street, East Hampton, about an 8 minute drive from the trailhead.
