This is a shorter hike (4 miles) so will be less strenuous than our typical hike - but it is still a hike - thus in the woods and on steep terrain.
We will hike to a great overlook of the Farmington River near the Tariffville Gorge and enjoy the full moon. BRING A HEADLAMP or FLASHLIGHT. If you do not, I really will ask you to leave.
Please dress in layers as the uphill climb will heat you up!
As with all Connecticut Hiking Alliance events, please do not use the "no rsvp" unless you previously rsvp'd yes and need to change your plans. We make this request because all rsvp responses become emails to the leaders. If you have not signed up as a yes, then we already know you are a "no" so please conserve on the emails. Other Meetup groups may have a different rsvp preference.
Distance: +/- 4 miles
Pets are permitted on this hike because it is an out and back.
Legal Stuff: By clicking on "Count me in" or "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows: In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Connecticut Hiking Alliance for and related to the above listed event. I attest and verify that I am physically fit to participate in any portion of this above listed event. I grant the Connecticut Hiking Alliance permission to use any photographs, film or videotapes of this event for any purpose.
I am participating in this event with the understanding that many photos will be taken and it is likely that I will appear in one or more photos. And the Connecticut Hiking Alliance takes a LOT of photos! And we post many many! Be forewarned. If you are in the witness protection program, this group is not for you.
Equipment/Hiking Wear: As with all Connecticut Hiking Alliance hikes, hiking shoes/hiking boots are a must as we hike on hiking trails not walking paths. Proper clothing is also important; dress appropriately and be prepared for changing conditions taking layers off or putting them on may be needed during the stretch of a hike.
Cotton is NOT appropriate wear when executing activities where you sweat and cool therefore select your hiking apparel with this in mind... denim is off limits as it becomes heavy and uncomfortable hindering your ability to hike and keep pace with the group.
If you have trouble on the hike, you will negatively impact the enjoyment for the rest of the group. If you are uncertain as to what clothing or items are considered hiking wear, please email me directly, or email any of the co-organizers. We will also be able to share referrals to suppliers of both new and gently used hiking apparel and supplies.
Food and Drink: Snack - proteins and sugars (especially if you haven't eaten since lunch) and at least one quart of water.
Bug repellent is a necessity. Ticks are around all year.
NOTE: Please make any general comments regarding how to improve or alter the overall processes of all the outings in the DISCUSSIONS tab. Requests for autographs should go through my marketing coordinator. Questions and comments to this event should be posted below. To communicate with a specific individual member - please email them directly (through meet up) rather than posting comments. Postings become announcements to everyone which can be annoying. The postings to the site should be topics that would be pertinent to all members. Meetup sites all have email functions for conversations between members.
Apres-Hike: I have a nearby venue in mind --- within 1/2 mile of our starting location. And we will be acceptable in our hiking apparel:
The Cracker Barrel Pub
30 Main Street
p. [masked] Our reservation is under my name.
