Metacomet Trail - After Work Hike

  • Metacomet Trail Head approximately:

24 Wintonbury Road, simsbury, CT (map)

    41.879196 -72.772842

  • Meet roadside.
  • Suitable for beginners and anyone who wishes to have a fun time hiking. Bring headlamp.  We will hike 5 +/- miles.  This will be a circuit hike - we will hike south on blue, return north on yellow/orange and see Lake Louise as well as stop at an overlook on our trek.

Please do not use the "no" rsvp function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.

Pets: Dogs are welcome provided they have no history of bad behavior. Bring a leash and proof of vaccination/registration because that is the rule for this trail.

This portion of the Metacomet (blue-blazed) traverses a generally northward route across the ridge that frames the Farmington Valley.

Please bring one zip lock bag with a peanut in the shell and a head lamp.

Apres-hike: As always, we will follow the hike with a social outing. We will go to a local watering hole.  We have plenty from which to choose in the area.  Stay tuned.

Equipment:  Hiking boots are a must. Denim/jeans are never acceptable with this group. Layers are important. You will sweat on the ascents so please dress in layers and adjust for the conditions.

Inappropriate wear may actually make the hike difficult for you and if you have difficulty it will impact the other hikers. If you are uncertain as to what clothing or items are considered hiking wear, please email me directly, or email any of the co-organizers. We will also be able to share referrals to suppliers of both new and gently used hiking apparel and supplies.

It is not my intention to embarrass any hiker, however if you come without preparation of clothing, food/water, I may pull you aside and ask you to reconsider.

Legal Stuff: By clicking on "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows:

In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Connecticut Hiking Alliance for and related to the above listed event. I attest and verify that I am physically fit to participate in any portion of this above listed event. I grant the Connecticut Hiking Alliance permission to use any photographs, film or videotapes of this event for any purpose. AND the Connecticut Hiking Alliance takes and posts a lot of photos! If you are camera shy, in the witness protection program or skipping work today - this group is not for you.

To communicate with a specific individual member - please email them directly (through meet up). All comments become emails to all members and most would appreciate fewer emails. The postings to the site should be topics that would be pertinent to all members. Meetup sites all have email functions for conversations between members.
