Creative Writers Ambler Meetup

At this Meetup, we'll gather as a group to share our experiences with writing during the month. We'll share ideas and resources and offer encouragement about writing and the process of developing our projects - for ourselves or for publication. We'll also take some time to do writing prompt exercises or other fun writing activities as a way to increase our spontaneity, gain energy and inspiration, and have fun together. If you have writing that you'd like to share, please bring copies with you. We are always happy to celebrate the positive in the work we review and to offer constructive feedback where invited. If you have ideas for fun writing exercises we can do together, please bring them! We will be meeting once per month, on the 2nd Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. If you want to suggest additional times and places to meet, please know you are encouraged to do so. This is a community for all of us!

I had a good time. I am working on my Character bible/Story bible. Did a little research on the web to understand the structure of these things. It is leading me to ask questions and get the creative process flowing. Just trying to decide if Word or Excel format is best for me.
Would love to see at least one creative exercise come out of each meeting.
On waitng list for next month. Hope I can fit in and see everyone.

It was great to see everyone and meet new attendees. I would like to see us stick to a more consistent format, though, with a discussion topic, creative exercise, and/or guest speaker for the Ambler meeting. I feel that critiques are wonderful, but the group is better served when they are saved for critique night at Zoto's. I regularly attend Zoto's critique night; I would love to see more participation.

I think people are sharing a range of ideas here. I hear consensus that people like having outside speakers and more structure, especially since our group has grown to be so big. I also hear that people prefer feel the critique time is better spent in the smaller groups at Zoto's (or anywhere else people want to meet, including critique groups specialized by genre). I also hear a suggestion for people to attend more formal critique groups if they want additional instruction on the hard work of writing. If people are looking for this, I can highly recommend Rachel Kobin who leads the Philadelphia Writer's Workshop at The Resiliency Center on Tuesday evenings. More info can be found at www.phillywriters.com.

Not easy reading my stuff for the first time to a room of strangers, but really glad I did. As F. Scott Fitz said “Nothing any good isn't hard.”
Greatly appreciated the feedback and hearing everyone else's writing.
Looking forward to the next meeting. Wish it wasn't once a month.

Here's the link to my blog. There's a lot of entries (mostly first draft chapters of my 2 memoirs, some stand alone stories/essays, tangents, and 2 poems.
Started writing 2 years ago this month, so the early stuff is whatever.
But this specific story attached to the link is the one most of my friends tell me is their favorite. http://thingsidonttalkaboutatparties.blogspot.com/2012/05/things-you-dont-talk-about-on-trains.html

My goal is to just make it there, also to encourage everyone to get ready for National Novel Writing Month...let's as a group try and get as many completed works done. We have a built in support base, we have each other. 50,000 words sounds like a lot, but if I can do it, anyone can do it.

If you attend critique group at Zoto's, your food and drink costa are your own responsibility.

There is no cost at the Resiliency Center, but if you go to Zoto's and order something you are responsible for what ever you order. The staff at Zoto's tries to accommodate us and we appreciate their help in facilitating our critiques there.
