This meeting is open to all and intended for those DIY types that want a basic understanding of how Aquaponics works, an overview of the build steps, and parts list so they can build their own system. These systems can be built into a 55 gallon or 35 gallon Polyethylene barrel

1. Overview of, how an Aquaponic system works, plumbing, media, plants, fish, and Nitrogen Start-up cycle will be given.
a. Elements of an Aquaponics system
b. How the plumbing works
c. What media to use and why
d. What plants are recommended
e. What is the Nitrogen (Start-up Cycle), why do I care, and how do I do it?
f. Testing: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Temperature, and pH.
g. Water conditioning
2. Simple Step by Step Instructions for building a one barrel Aquaponics System and overview of how each system element works will be shown
a. The parts used to build the system
b. Where to cut the barrel and how to assemble it.
c. How and where to drill the holes for drain, water inlet, pump power cord, and Fish Tank access Oval hole.
d. Plumbing overview:
i. Drain/overflow installation and assembly
ii. Pump and water inlet installation and connection.
iii. Bulkhead substitutes and tricks
e. Final Assembly
We have a fully operational One Barrel Aquaponics system that you can inspect. It has been growing herbs for 90 days. Also we will have all the parts to assemble another system, so you can see the parts and before, and fit or placement after they go together.

You are welcome to omit either of the build classes 2a or 2b but, please:
Take 1/ Intro before 3/ Advance
Take 3/ Advanced before 4/ Intro to Commercial
Take 4/ Intro to Commercial before 5/ Commercial Design
Barrel kits will be available. You can come to an Introduction to Aquaponics and leave a parts kit or a kit ready to assemble kit. Just add the pump, controls of your choice, and some fish, to have a system ready to grow
55 gallon plastic barrels are available for $25 each. You may be able to find them cheaper but make sure they are food grade.
Raft way liner is available for $1/sq ft and comes in 12’ minimum width. So the minimum quantity is 12’x1’ for $12. Just tell us how long a piece you need.
