Aquaponics in the cold winter months

Dave Pennington will be conducting this meetup, the topic will be "how to set up and run an Aquaponics system in the North Texas winter".

We will discuss the ins and outs of keeping your system happy even when the mercury dips. There will be a range of heating units on display, most of which are easy and inexpensive to make. We can discuss the cost of heating and the strategies for keeping things warm, and also whether it makes sense to heat your system at all.

A slideshow of commercial aquaponic systems in Illinois and Massachusetts will be shown and discussed.

There will be a $5 charge to help defray the cost of having the meetup.

I mean I got a wood stove to heat the house and can use it simultaneously to also heat a tilapia tank outside in an attached greenhouse.

I have just found a way we maybe able to inexpensively keep tilapia over the winter! Yesterday I got a very high quality used stove at an incredible price. And this morning I learned how I can easily heat water with it: http://www.countrysidemag.com/issues/94/94-1/free_hot_water_from_your_wood_cookstove.html . The stove is located on the south wall where I plan to build an attached greenhouse. If I place an elevated fish tank there and use pex tubing, I will very easily be able to heat the fish water while heating the house. I am so excited tind such a simple, low maintenance solution!

Next time I think you should have everyone save their questions for the end. Complete your presentation and then at the end have a Q&A or discussion of the topic.

The gym we're meeting in tomorrow does not have chairs, please bring a lawn chair or folding chair if you will need one. We'll have cushioned mats to sit on but no chairs.

You can use my gym until my lease is up 12/31...it's not an aquaponics farm but it's 4 walls and a roof.

Hello folks. Im excited to see this meet up group becuse I've made it my focus to teach aquaponics to anyone who will listen. I don't know everything but am great at soaking up info and re-teaching it in a comprehensive manner. I would be more than happy to help and would welcome input from anyone who has any. I am willing to research and learn what I don't already know about winter gardening. If you want my help in any way feel free to let me know. My name is Jonathan. [masked]-6612. I do paid installs as well as helping out with people doing it themselves. I am also trying to start up a non profit charity to install in third world countrys. My goal for my first non profit project is a system at Friendship house in garland. A local food bank. I am starting a food drive for them now and will be talking to them while delivering the food.

Ummm, i'm new to this group so I don't know much about how meet up works. I suggested this meet up because I'm also very new to aquaponics - I want to take this course if someone were to teach it :)
